The fifth hour of rain. The descent when your legs are done. The approach in the dark. Northwind exists for the unglamorous middle of the route.
In 2019, two guides in Bristol kept sending jackets back to manufacturers who had stopped answering emails. So they bought a industrial sewing machine, learned to tape seams properly, and started repairing gear for friends. The repairs turned into patterns. The patterns turned into a small run of shells.
That is still the order of operations: identify the failure, fix it, then build the product. We do not start with a colour palette.
Every piece is produced in runs of a few hundred. When it sells out, the product page says so instead of quietly taking backorders. We would rather disappoint you once than take your money twice.
We sell directly. Every order is billed by Northwind Commerce Ltd., the same entity that answers support email, holds the stock and carries the returns liability. On your statement, our charges appear as NW*OUTDOORS.
For the first two years, seam and hardware repairs are free. After that we charge parts at cost. We publish repair notes so you can keep the gear alive without us.
We are not a marketplace, a drop-shipping storefront, or a brand that changes its name at the checkout. The product page, the invoice, the bank account and the support inbox all belong to the same company.
Founded in Bristol by two mountain guides and one very loud sewing machine.
Countries shipped, with duties estimated before you pay rather than after.
Free seam and hardware repairs on every piece we sell.
